Towards “Zero waste mining” by installation of Limestone Washing Plant
Limestone deposits near Pennadam of Ariyalur district in Tamil Nadu are inherently interbedded with calcareous marl and clay between various grades in quality. State of the art Limestone beneficiation plant by wet scrubbing system is being employed for enriching the quality of limestone . In this environment friendly washing system, the excess water is recovered back for recycling in High rated thickener and Hydro cyclones.

Challenges
01
The very low grades beyond 18% silica are in the range of 40 % of the total reserves.
02
Dumping back without using them in the process is a waste of natural resources against the Nation’s interest
03
We had to rely on External Imported limestone and excess consumption of high grade limestone to control the quality due to such low grades
Impact
The adoption of this limestone washing system has significantly improved the utilization of very low grade minerals.
01
The entire low grade is recovered by washing away the marl from limestone
02
Procurement of External limestone have significantly reduced
03
Washing plant rejects are effectively used for backfilling of mined out voids
04
Achieved Zero waste mining and has improved our sustainability
